Vitae et Mortis Mosaic

Vitae et Mortis
Mosaic in wood frame (ready to hang)
18.5 inches diameter
Edition of 10

While I was in Jordan I had the opportunity to work with a local mosaic studio in the city of Madaba, an ancient center of mosaic making that has been practicing the art since antiquity. The result is a small series of multiples of this image titled “Vitae et Mortis” depicting fig branches blossoming from a skull, a primeval symbol representing the circle of life.
